That definition of Western Europe Is Wrong. You cannot leave Scandinavia, UK or Ireland Away. Otherwise if Scandinavia is discarded for being too North, Spain, Italy ,Portugal and Southern France should be discarded for being too South.
Anyways East-West Europe definition correlates with cold-war and definition of the West, first world, third world , and second world nations, its massively outdated.
I rather divide europe by ethno-linguistical and cultural affinities.
For me Europe should be divided in the following
Mediterranean Europe: Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece.
West/atlantic Europe: France, Uk, Ireland.
GErmanic Europe: Scandinavia(minus Finland)+ Netherlands+ Germany+ Austria
Balkan Europe/ex yugo (all the Balkan Countries from Macedonia up to Croatia/Slovenia)
East Europe: Poland, Czech, Slovakia,Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia
Odd Dogs: Finland, Estonia, Hungary.
