A smoky body odor after eating gluten? I've heard this is common.

I've known two people with Celiac disease and after eating gluten both emit a strong smoky body odor. Literally smells like they stood next to a campfire or a fireplace.

If anyone knows the inner workings of the disease, what happens when the body can't break down gluten and what causes the odor?

I did some research on Celiac disease and it makes sense to me now: it destroys the lining of the intestine, preventing the body from properly digesting anything.. therefore, improperly digested elements exit the body as waste, and through the pores. In some people, depending on how their body reacts to the gluten and what they ate, can produce smoky smelling urine, feces, and sweat.
