Default Skin Color Didn't Matter to the Ancient Romans..

The ancient Romans did not display any hard core race prejudice.
The African or better the "Aethiops," in the Roman Empire worked, lived without fear of racial animosity.
Not all Africans in Rome were slaves, or servants. On the contrary, some were writers, generals...
One general of legendary Roman Theban Legion was Aethiops...

Reality was more complex than this and black skin was not necessarily well seen by the roman population it was a sign of death :

it seems that many Romans were distinctly prejudiced against black people in particular. Black Africans were seen as exotic, and perhaps threateningly alien, and they are seldom if ever mentioned in Roman literature without some negative connotation. Most disturbingly, the historian Appian claims that the military commander Brutus, before the battle of Philippi in 42BC, met an ‘Ethiopian’ outside the gates of his camp: his soldiers instantly hacked the man to pieces, taking his appearance for a bad omen – to the superstitious Roman, black was the colour of death."

Of course racism back then was very different probably because our modern views of the racial question are influenced by the early (pseudo-) scientific "studies" that were made during the XIXth century (bringing biological explanations to defend some kind of racial hierarchy) while in ancient times it was mostly a question of culture (even though in some cases being dark skinned wasn't necessarily tolerated or appreciated)

It was Saint Maurice who was an Egyptian commander in the Royal Theban Army. He was canonized and you can find statues and murals of him.

St. Maurice in Magdeburg (ca. 1240)

Skin color didn't matter to the Ancient Romans. And guess what? They collapsed and needed the Nordic "Babarians" to save their ass. It's pretty meaning I have to say.

no it's more like barbarian immigrants are one of the reason why the western roman empire fall.

These depictions were made by people who had never seen any egyptian in their life (in general german artists). The same way these germans used to depict moors as blacks while spanish artists didn't so take back your crap.

Who cares what ancient Romans thought ? Ancient Romans were anti-intellectual mental midgets compared to the Ancient Greeks AND the British empire. The British were quite racist indeed they brought racism to the world.

Here a is riddle for you :

You have 10 minutes to decide on which one of a random assortment of a 100 random strange black men to be a position of General in the Roman legion. Meanwhile only 1 in 6 blacks is as intelligent as the average white and you have no way of knowing their criminal records or at least not all of them within 10 minutes time. Which black man do you pick ? Answer that one Roman anti-intellectual mental midget.
