White and Black as categories become more relevant as groups of "whites" and "blacks" come into interaction with each other.

It's easy to identify with your nation when your nation is 95% or higher the same ethnicity as you are. If you ask an American his ethnicity, he'll say he's white. If you take the time to inquire more, he'll explain that his mother's side is from Ireland and his father's side from Germany or whatnot. But it's harder to get into specifics when you're more likely to be descended from multiple European nations. It's just easier to say white.

MENA people in America are all White from a legal standpoint, but they're only seen as White socially if they are Christian or Jewish, and assimilated.

thats still very diverse majority. in finnland you have finns who are the majority but in america a egyptian copt (christian) who is american culturally is the same as a scando american etc. but diversity is cool too and a diverse gene pool so white americans will be diverse in genes.

lol,any American would not consider an Egyptian as white even the Egyptian. It gets a bit tricky with Lebanese like someone like Ralph Nader. I even have seen Iranians that look white I always seen them as cousins.

White applies to certain people with certain features and generally a lighter pigmentation. Their features tend to be sharper(chiseled) and they usually have or are carriers of recessive traits.
