Question to White Brits: do you identify more with English-speaking Caribbeans or Balkan Slavs?

English speaking Caribbeans.

Now, if I were to say South Asians vs Balkan Slavs, that would be much more of a real debate due to the former's linguistic and especially religious and cultural differences. However, Black Caribbeans are generally Christian, monolingual English-speaking (patois doesn't count as 'another language') and have a Westernised culture heavily influenced by the British, so all but the most racist Brits would identify more with them than with Balkan Slavs. Do you agree?

In other words, do you prioritise language (and to some extent culture) more or race more?

If I was stuck on a desert island I'd take the non-white good looking woman with the English or British accent Caribbean English accent over a slavic speaking balkan babe. But what are the chances of such a scenario arising ?

Caribbean culture is heavily African influenced though. Plus, English language and culture can be learned by any immigrant to Britain.

Caribbean culture has significant influences from both Britain and West Africa. And the point is the Balkan immigrants would have to learn English language and culture - most wouldn't have it to begin with and would thus take longer to integrate.

Didn't notice you had quoted me, I agree with you that most Brits would have more in common with Afro-Caribbeans than Balkanites. I guess that other than our cultural similarities and colonial history, the image we have of the Caribbean being a paradise, with fun people and nice music adds to a more positive image for the AC, most people are not even sure what the Balkans are, some that do still remember it as the fringe of Europe, wars, Yugoslavia, Communism etc... its a grim image.

So feel I have more in common with Black Caribbeans over Balkanites. As for South Asians, I prefer anything over Pakis, Punjabis and Bangaladeshis, I would bar them from entering the UK if I could.

Like I mentioned in another thread, I feel a connection with a lot of non-white Commonwealth people due to our past colonial history, but still feel more comfortable with White Britons over Black/Brown/Asian Britons.

Essentially, Britons over anything else, but within British society itself I feel a stronger connection with Britons of my own race than those of others.
