Default How many people in Scotland have Irish ancestry?

If 16% of Scottish people are Catholics and they are mostly of Irish descent, does that mean that 15% or so of people living in Scotland can trace their ancestry to Ireland? When I say Irish ancestry I mean traceable ancestry that goes back some generations ago at most, not dating back centuries or millennia ago.

Most Catholics have Irish ancestry, but also a decent amount of Italians came to scotland too, but nothing compared to the Irish. Catholicism has been boosted in the last decade via Polish migration.

You also have many atheists of Catholic origin or Ulster Protestant migrants.

So yeah, a large amount of Scots have Irish ancestry in small or large amounts. Especially in South West Scotland and with Dundee on the East Coast.

Could not give you a figure that I know of unfortunately.
