    Beyond Belgrade:

Niš is the third largest city of Serbia after Belgrade ( https://youtu.be/WmKNcI4atpA ) and Novi Sad ( https://youtu.be/996_ylB-hEQ ). Founded in 279 BC Niš is one of the oldest cities in Europe. The city was occupied by the Romans and the Ottomans later. We arrived in Nis our way to the Guča Trumpet Festival ( https://youtu.be/35l3pn6AHy8 ). We start our afternoon tour in the city (August 2019) at the Niš Fortress. The park is a nice place to relax in the city. We see the Lapidarium, which is one old collection of tombstones (1st-4th century) and see the preparations for the Nisville Jazz Festival. We exit the park through the Stambol Gate. We walk over the Tvrđavski Most (bridge) then across the King Milan Square and head South into the modern city centre. There are plenty of shops all around the city centre along the Obrenoviceva walking street. We'll see see the pubs fill up with the coming evening when we return. First we walk further South and visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral (Саборни Храм Свете Тројице) with the colourful paintings and icons. From the cathedral we walk into a more residential area. Further East lies the Čair Park (Чаир парк) which is popular on this hot summer evening. We have stroll around the park a bit and return eventually to the city centre via the Dušanova street. The Kopitareva alley is lined with bars and restaurants which get busy now. Sunset is coming so we return to the Niš Fortress and park where we started and end our 1 hour walking tour through Niš there.

In front of the Orthodox church of the Holy Archangel Gabriel, in Zemun Park, Belgrade, there is an unusual monument - a hachkar, Armenian cross-stone. Decorated with biblical motifs, it was carved by the Armenian artist Ruben Nalbandian.
A gift to the Serbian people in memory of the death of 7 pilots who brought help to the Armenians after the 1988 earthquake.
