Why do many Americans hate the French?

Why do very many Americans hate or look down on the French? I've noticed it with characters on tv shows like "Married with children"(Al Bundy) from the late 80s and 90s and ''All in the family" from the 70s (Archie Bunker). They like to claim French have historically had a weak military and are cowards and degenerates, which is ridiculous. I would like to hear from Americans, if they know why this attitude is so common among Americans.

As a Czech guy, I did not understand the number of anti-French comments in American movies and TV shows, until the time when I watched a French document named French Bashing.
I tried to find it via youtube but I have found just the original French language version of the document:

Because they refused to cooperate with us in Iraq, and they have a history of getting schlonged in wars.

But as I pointed out, this thing is older than the Iraq war period. Also, just have to say that France has an impressive military history overall.

They got schlonged in pretty much every war they fought, including, ultimately, the Napoleonic Wars.

They would all be speaking German by now if America hadn't saved them, yet they still refuse to help us liberate Iraq.

Ok a little reality check. The US never won a major war against another great power all by itself. You only won in the American Revolutionary War because of French assistance. France did often fought and won, fighting against other great powers and even coalitions of states. In the Napoleonic Wars it took many years and a lot of blood and money spent by the great coalition of great powers fighting against France, to actually win. They even went easy on France in the peace treaty, so not to have France get rid of the Bourbons and start war again.
