Why do many Americans hate the French?

Americans actually mostly see France favorably (73% 5th place gallup 2013). Ahead of France were: Canada, UK, Germany, Japan.
But like every one there are stereotypes.

We kicked Spain's ass in 1898, and Hitler would have won WWII without us.

The Napoleonic wars were France's best performance, yes, but Napoleon was Italian.

France got schlonged by Germany 3 times in 70 years, even if other countries like America eventually bailed them out.

I'm not thrilled with the French political climate. But then, I haven't trusted our (American) government in many moons either... Frankly, I think all contemporary governments are corrupt.

As for French people. I'm not too keen on their culture. But I married a lady who is 1/3 French... And Ooh, la,la.

How about America getting schlonged by the British twice, first time being saved by the weak french. Getting schlonged in Korea, Vietnam and now Afghanistan.
