Lol, the distance between Northern and Southern Italians (0.032) is virtually the same as that between Central Russians and Croats (0.031).

What I think is interesting is Trapani is closer to Albanians than to Macedonian Greeks, and that Peloponnesians are closest to Kosovars. The Albanian samples on here clearly are quite south shifted.

North and south Italians (the south Italian sample being Calabria) are quite apart. The South Italy sample is also the furthest of all the European samples from the other samples (meaning any North/East/Central Euro population is likely closer to 99% of the list than to the Calabrese).

Also Peloponnesians on there definitely are more "southern" than the Greek Macedonians, but less so than Abruzzo or Trapani.

There is a pattern but it also depends heavily on the samples used (example: some samples were not collected to represent the average of a population), the type and number of components.

These are the distances based on the Eurogenes K15 and the MDLP 16 modern.

On MDLP 16 modern Italian Bergamo, Italian North and Italian Friuli are all northern Italian samples.

Central Greek (Athenians and North Aegean islands) is very close to their East Sicily (Syracuse) sample in Eurogenes K13.

Do you have similar data based on K13?

In the ones Percivalle posted, Sicilians are, again, closer to Bulgarians than to Iberia.

In that table North Italians are even more distant from South Italians than Smolensk Russians (the far West of Russia) are from Croats.
