The social widespread ignorance in Turkey can't realize that Orthodox are like 2nd class in Europe, well behind the Catholic and especially behind Lutherians. Keeping on that style is shame.
Neo-Ottomanists copy classical Ottoman Architecture, late architecture is also good (but best ones were built in classical period)

Ottoman Architecture is part of Turkey. You are insulting yourself by saying these.

That's Byzantine dome. Armenian Mimar Sinan, as a result of his lack of creativity simply copy pasted Hagia Sophia dome with blue mosque (Süleymaniye) and that is now revived for decades all over the country by neo-Ottomanists. You like it or not.
Ottomans had their own style like seen at Bursa mosque of 1399. They were poisoned after 1453.
That you posted of late style, western-influenced Baroque mosque of Ortaköy is nice yeah.

    Neo-Ottomanist Mosque-Supermarket combination: Uber architecture!

Neither of them were Ortaköy Mosque actually.

I agree on second part, reviving classical architecture gone wrong.

Still the most impressive building is Blue Mosque, build something better (we both know that's not going to happen soon, and Blue Mosque has history.)

Petrograd / Leningrad/ St Petersburg has western, European architecture. Moscow has the non-European, East Slavic, onion domes architecture. As a result of struggle against what they call 'Western imperialism, the Slavic nationalist and Bolshevik forces transferred Russian capital from Petrograd to Moscow.

Yeah it's strong building but that remains a cheap imitation of Hagia Sophia.

Well, another point of view would be that it's good the Ottoman Architecture was in Synergy with predecessor Byzantine Architecture, this way the city's history is protected.

Look at the skyscrapers being built around, are they any better?

That can be a good point of view but building same Byzantine style mosques from Edirne to Hakkari everywhere is pathetic. Even in places like Konya or Adana which have their own historical style are poisoned, they build new mosques in that Byzantine-Mimar Sinan style. When you travel by car through highways around the country you also see the mosque-supermarket combination.
That's pathetic and awful. Skyscrapers and futurist style construction are better imo.

Esenler Semazen mosque. New style. That looks better.
