The double edge sword of the Marshall Plan of the 1940s, which was used to aid and keep Greece the ONLY Western non-Communist country of Eastern Europe is starting to be apparent. It is taking 70 years to occur as the money, power and influence of the WEST is waning. Greece as a weak peripheral Western country is the first victim but will not be the last. I think many do not see how serious the Greek economic situation is on the world stage and the failure to resolve it shows the real weakness of the West.
It shows China and Russia that the West cannot solve an issue for a small country within their "EU", it looks very very bad on the global stage.
The European States are being forced to now compete with South/East Asia and also the Former Communist Block nations of Eastern Europe. It is a terribly tough situation for the "Old World Order" to handle. Greece may be the first but not the last as the West continues to decay and reduce their standard of living.
The Marshall Plan ended doing exactly what it was not suppose to do and that was to push the people to work hard and push innovation and not to be reliant on the state. As we can see by the Western resistant to reform this is not the case. Europe is not innovative and is socialist at heart.
I say to the migrants please do not go to the WEST because it is a decaying mess that is looking more authoritarian day by day.
The unification of Germany was the nail in the coffin for Western European high standard of living dominance. When Germany was able to then utilize the poor Eastern section of the country to under cut the labor markets of Protectionist France and Italy,, it was only a matter of time before Macron style reforms became a necessity. Italy and Greece have been trying to borrow to sustain the standard of living but it cannot continue this way forever. It will cause debt crisis with the next downturn.
Now add in the competition of East/South Asia and it looks even worse for Western Europe.
The UK has a healthcare system that is similar to African countries when it comes to cancer survival rates they lack the innovation to compete and have been on a massive decline since the 1940s.
The USA is headed into a frail quasi authoritarian state with the Executive branch battling the Courts and Legislature, this is not looking pretty and the Trump administration will end badly.
I just do not see good things in the West future.
