As far as Western Balkans is concerned, Nationalism brought only poverty, agony and death. More Nationalism will bring only more poverty, agony and death.

Good point. The problem is in case of monarchies one identity was replaced with another. So the sense of belonging remained relevant and clear for everyone. What is offered now to replace nations bears no such sense. It's hollow, empty, vain.

So we have perfect illustration of dialectics in play: one being was rejected and replaced with another being, then some time later second being is rejected too. According to laws of dialectics once we reject second being the first one should come back in some renewed form. Which in this case means monarchies, religious traditionalism, feudalism will come back as soon as nations are dissolved. And we can already see it coming back in form of religious fundamentalism. It won't be the same as it was in Middle Ages, it will be some upgraded form with all new technologies inbuilt into it. And sure it will be more brutal.
