Strangely, there was a different Albania, the Kingdom of Albania in the Eastern Caucasus Region. Sometimes it's called "Caucasian Albania" so as to differentiate it from the country Albania, in Europe, but all historical maps simply describe it as Albania. Historically, the region was under the rule of a number of countries and empires. Geographically, the Eastern Region of the Armenian Highlands extends deep into the Western Area of what was once part of Caucasian Albania. In the 20th Century, the USSR incorporated Caucasian Albania into the Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan, but Azeri-Turks basically remade and subverted the former cultural atmosphere in that area.

The European Country of Albania is well aware of this, and it doesn't dispute that there was a place called Albania, in the Eastern Caucasus Region.
