No, the state should not act as a headsman. Lifelong imprisonment is the worst penalty any criminal can suffer anyways.

Some people should be axed for their disgusting, murderous actions, but then again the thought and reality of getting the wrong people, always makes me feel bad man. Executing the wrong people is wrong and terrible on so many levels. The death penalty is a really tough issue.

I'm pretty much neutral aswell, but in any case, it's just one the many tools, which can easily be abused by governments for various reasons. Every government willing to do that in the first place can do it just as effectively by other means.
