Most people don't really go for their neghbouring countries when learning a different language..

How come? Perhaps nowadays with globalisation it is different, but surely it was traditional to learn your neighbours' languages before anything else for trade and travel reasons.

I also understand Dutch perfectly, I mean that from the Netherlands. My language is Belgian Dutch, but I do prefer Dutch from NL over Belgian Dutch at times. For instance in vulgar language Belgian Dutch they say 'poepen' to 'to fuck', while in NL Dutch is means 'to poop'. I will never say it in the Belgian sense, for I find it a sexually unappetising word. Sadly the person who invented it is long dead and anonymous, for I'd hit him in the face for it.

Norwegian is super easy, both Nynorsk and Bokmål but more so Bokmål. Danish is also relatively easy once you listen to it for a while.

Norwegian is like Swedish but less refined, I've heard. I wouldn't know, but I can imagine. For instance the Norwegian word for negating a sentence is 'ikke'. In Swedish you have 'inte' (neutral), 'ej' (formal) and 'icke' (archaic). One example where Swedish is more rule bound with subtitleties Norwegians just is more blunt in.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but the general statement is probably still true.
