The onset of the quaternary period was host to a large swath of animals and plants being wiped from the face of the earth. Creatures like the mammoth, thylacine, great auk, passenger pigeon, and black rhinocerus all driven to death by members of just one species. For the first time in its history, we are seeing a species become smart enough to alter the world, but not smart enough to do it right, nor to admit their problem and take responsibility beyond the immediate future. The projections of the Holocene extinction shows a future where only a fourth of all terrestrial will survive as a third of marine species will die alongside them. This sixth extinction poses a threat to all life on this planet, including us, if we are unwilling to change.
A world like this requires us to halt the ever increasing human population, and create less wasteful agricultiral practices, for these are the most damaging factors. Recreating wild enviroments and reintroducing indigenous species, perhaps even working with de-extinction, could significantly help reduce the effect of humanity. But these can only go so far unless humans are kept in check, before we destroy ourselves, wiping out any future for our species.
