When you think about it, Israelites were really just a bunch of desert savages. They had some small, weak, and overall unimportant kingdoms whose greatest achievement was conquering some other desert savages, but meanwhile they got conquered by every important civilization in the area from Egypt to the Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Greeks and Romans. Their only actual contribution to civilization was the Old Testament which is only important at all for it's influences on later Europeans.
