Over the last few years I've seen lots of news reports about a lot of European nations, the US, Canada and Australia, etc, all trying to encourage more Chinese tourists to their nations and writing signs in both English and Chinese Mandarin in stores to attract more Chinese tourists, as the average Chinese tourist spends more money than other tourists spend.
Also, I've seen news reports from the UK and US about some children in both nations being taught Chinese Mandarin in schools as a second language instead of traditionally being taught German or French as a second language, as our government have said it'll be a very useful second language for the future generations in trade, tourism, and commerce, etc.
English is the official international language of business meetings, aviation communication, engineering, computer programming, the internet, science publications, etc... but French is the traditional international language of diplomacy, although it's been overtaken by English.
English is used as the lingua franca in India as it's a neutral language which doesn't give dominance to the numerous languages in their nation. Currently India is the world's third largest English language book producers.
The US, Canada, France, the UK, Germany and Italy are powerful G7 nations with rich economies, but about 5 of the world's top financial cities in the globe are English speaking cities.
