Is your half actually English? My 1/4 Colonial American is mostly PA Dutch, with a little Scottish and even less possible English.

But I still see them as Anglo-American because they were completely assimilated, Anglophone, and even involved with the Native American (Know Nothing) party.

Though 3/4 of my family is of more recent European immigrant origin, so I know I don't really belong to America as much as a pure colonial Anglo-American does.

Do you see French-Americans as NW Euro/Anglo Whites, or do you see them as Med/"ethnic" Whites like Italians?

I'm not really sure but my French blood is so distant I hardly even count it. Even George Washington had a little French ancestry though.

I think Washington also had some Dutch, but it was Amsterdam Dutch, and I like the Pennsylvania Dutch better. The Amsterdam Dutch are too mercantile and obsessed with tulips for my taste.

Yes, I did. I'm pretty sure that I'm mostly of Spanish stock, and yet I happen to have an Italian surname, inherited from my direct paternal great great grandfather, who was an Italian immigrant who settled in Venezuela in the second half of the XIX century.

No. I have the surname of my white great grandmother whos name comes from her male family line from spain as immigrants to dr. The surname of my real paternal line is of different origin. And its a chance it was a different surname before even that one. Probably from dutch or austria. But not 100 percent sure because baptism records doesnt indicate an adoption in my line. A website claims it but i have not seen any basis. A ydna match with me has a very unusual surname but its just a regular word in portuguese. I dont see any person of that surname in portugal. Its present in austria and cechoslovakia for some weird reason. Close last names to it are also present in italy
