Nope. It was a very common name in the German town my GG grandpa lived in. I guess to be more unique, he changed it by 2 letters. However, its pronounced the same.

Yes. Though at the time in which my great-great-grandfather was around, they didn't really use their actual surname(family name) as a surname, they used their fathers first name instead. For example if an Albanian had a father called Gjok, they would use Gjoka or Gjokaj as their second name despite it not being the family name. So there would actually be three names usually, first name, fathers name and family name

The Albanians, these tigers of mountain wars ... have as their religion rebellion. Even their worst warrior is one of the strongest and bravest on the battle-field, just as if he was a knight on the legendary horse. But he has no horse, nor proper weapons for battle. Instead of the horse, he has a lance which strikes as lightning, he has spears who's points are full of posion as the sting of hornets, he has also a wooden bow with some arrows. Furthermore, he is stronger than iron ...

I can only confirm the identity of my paternal great grandfather. Same surname, yes.

Well, my surname is spelled in English and my paternal great great grandfather's surname was spelled in Greek, otherwise it is the same name. The English spelling of it is actually quite accurate based on how I have seen it spelled in Greek imo.

No, my great grandfather got into it with his brothers and decided he didn't want to be associated with them any more, so I have cousins with the original spelling. One vowel was changed and the alternate spelling is considered to have the same origins and meaning.
