You can find them draping the walls and outside shops in various towns in Iberia, Sicily, and North Africa.

But which culture did they originate in? Like the geometric patterned plates in these places with Moorish influence, I assume Berber origin.

Possibly a mix of all three options?

Well you find very similar things sold in shops throughout Iberia, Sicily, and North Africa but I always assumed they are a holdover from Moorish times. I was unsure which culture they originated in.

Last one looks European, especially that coloring.

Try this, from the same shop.

I am guessing Berber is the origin rather than European or Arabian.

You forgot to mention that we also use those flying magical carpets as means of transportation too.

You are saying they do not exist in Portugal? Well they do in Andalusia, and in Sicily (at least the western part).

Not that I know of. And especially not draped on the wall, no one does that in here. When you said that, Russians came immediately to my mind since I've seen them using carpets on the wall countless times.

And those carpets remind me a little bit of handmade Persian carpets that can cost up to 5000€. They are worldwide famous I believe. You need to go to a specialized house interiors shop to get one imported. Apart from that you won't find similar carpets to those ones and definitely not being sold as a local product.

Search for "tapeçaria Portuguesa" on Google images and you will get an idea of what our traditional handmade textiles look like.
