Who are the Irish Travelers? Where did they originate?

I have heard they are not Roma Gypsies and have no South Asian DNA, but are instead Irish who were made homeless by Oliver Cromwell's conquest of Ireland and simply carried on a nomadic lifestyle since.

They're essentially Irishmen who were displaced by Cromwell and then got lost in the woods.

They may have diverged a little, because of a genetic bottleneck.

But there's no relation to Gypsies.
