I have nothing against per se but their language is very harsh sounding. English has a Latin infusion from the Norman French invasion and French is pure silk to my ears.

I think German sounds much harsher than Dutch:

I fucking love the Dutch language. The fricative [x] sound is actually pleasent to my ears. And it sounds far less childish than German with it's frequent use of "I".

I have a soft spot for Germanic languages in general myself. Don't get me wrong, I also like Romance languages and am interested in Slavic languages. However, my mind thinks very Germanic and it fascinates me because in history we have the same source language.

Germanic languages often evolve in similar ways independently from each other (either in their dialects or their improper use in their informal register). True for every language family, but I happen to be raised thinking Germanic, so it helps me notice it better.

A good example of Southern Dutch (Brabantian-accented Standard Dutch).

Soft consonants instead of harsh ones.

Depends. But German has more consonant clusters making it seem harsher alright. This depends on dialect, though. Hessian dialect is very round instead of sharp.

The ugliest most peculiar Dutch dialect is the dialect of Leiden (Leids). A Hollandic dialect which supposedly has origins in Walloon immigrants (Protestant malcontents and refugees in the 17th century) who got Dutchified.

They have the same R as Americans do. It's just sounds weird.

Interestingly there exists a hypothesis that US Americans speak the way they do due to Dutch influences. I'm sceptical lol.

I don't hate all Hollandic, though. Heck I don't even hate Leids, I find it ugly and it's ugliness adds to its charm I guess.

    I like Amsterdam dialect

    and I also like Hagueish.

(they look weird, but they're fictional conmen lol)
