Portuguese dialects: Guess

Portuguese dialects are mutually intelligible variations of the Portuguese language over Portuguese-speaking countries and other areas holding some degree of cultural bound with the language. Portuguese has two standard forms of writing and numerous regional spoken variations (with often large phonological and lexical differences).


A little game for Portuguese speakers, people who are familiar with the Portuguese language and\or anyone who wants to give it a try.

I will post a Portuguese dialect and you have to guess from which region is it!

Some are more obvious than others, but when if I post other dialects will you be able to guess as easily the region? Lets see.

Also I guess that this is not easy at all for Brazilian members.

For the second vocaroo you posted, is that some sort of Galego?

Namorei uma moça de Funchal por um breve tempo, quando ela estava a falar com a família dela comigo ao lado eu não era capaz de entender nada se não reduzissem a velocidade e Brazilificassem a intonação.

No. This thread is about Portuguese dialects. The sample I posted is from a Portuguese based creole language but I am not spilling the beans yet.

It is not Galego, but I also think it resembles Galego in its pronunciation. What's your guess on the first sample?

It sounds like it's from one of the archipelagos to my novice ears, I'm quite torn, the way he pronounced his Ts remind me of the Madeira accent a little, but I'll pick Açores instead.

It is from the Azores, you guessed the region correctly. It is from a specific island of the archipelago though (each has its own accent).
