Thats because there weren't that many second gen or third gen asians around in most western countries, atleast not widely spread out. Outside of california, most of the asians were first gen immigrants who were likely married already prior to mid 2000s. White men have been at asian women since colonial era in Hong Kong, south east asia, etc. prior to 2000s they were unnoticed, never considered unattractive or looked down upon lol. Kpop since gangnam style in 2010 definitely made them get more noticed but prior to that there were many that appreciated japanese culture and women a lot.
Now you see a lot of those first/second gen kids grown up, going to colleges, work places, etc and many get exposed to these asian women on a regular basis and the asian girls take the choice in dating only asian and white men since that's who they find most attractive/compatibility with. Its not cause they're trendy, they just simply are very attractive. I know a bunch of indian dudes that like asian girls trust me. they just can't get them.
I'll give UK as an example. Most chinese and koreans are quite recent to that area and once their presence started increasing a bit, many white dudes have rushed in dating those british chinese and british koreans. Indians have been in UK for a while yet the number of indian girls with white guys over there is significantly less than white-east asian or even white-black. In UK lol where there are like 10 times more south asians than east asians, they still find chinese/korean women more attractive and tend to date them more. In australia its a similar phenomenon to US cause asians have been there for a while.
Among europeans you find men prefer east euro/russian women the most and if you look at it they have the most oriental influence in that region with many russians having siberian blood and other east euros have mongol invasion mix. In Turkey, mongoloid mixture is very appreciated and many of their celebrities have that asiatic appearance as well so turkey obsesses over their mongol lineage as well. In India, a lot of northeast indians are moving to cities like Delhi, Bombay, Bangalore, etc and most indians started to find northeast women more attractive than local indian girls. Most prostitutes in India are of nepali descent, who tend to have heavy tibetan features. Its all over the world, not just in western countries. Its just that you're exposed to them more in western countries.
