Default Would you agree that Japanese "are Germans" of Asia?

Considering economy, discipline, advanced stuff in high tech, industry, life standard for it's people etc?

P.S. IMO Japanese are in fact ahead of Germans because they do one thing which germans do not: Japanese give a fuck about their people and they are making sure that Japan always stays ONLY for Japenese, and I salute that.

I think that used to be more true than now, given how much China is taking over.

In my eyes China is still poor country for its ppl in comparison to Japan. You cannot compare life standard of an average Japanese with life standard of an average Chinese.

And that is also included in this thread's question: life standard.

In some regards such as those you mentioned, yes, but mostly if you limit yourself to modern Japan and Germany. They're both rule-obsessed and bureaucratic from what I've heard too.

One difference is Germans are much more blunt and will tell you when you are in error or at fault, whereas I think the Chinese and Koreans are both more blunt than the Japanese, whose idea of manners might be more similar to the British in this regard.

Historically speaking though the Japs and the Scots are actually quite similar, namely warlike island people with a clan system. They even have similar weapons which are fairly unique both in the context of Asia and Europe, such as the Jeddart Staff:

    and the naginata:

Japan I think was more of an important economic centre in the past - back in the 70's many even predicted it'd overtake the US - but I think China's rise has increasingly overshadowed it. And as for your point about living standards, while rural China is still pretty poor, much of the urban Southeast is probably not much different to Japan now.

Japan has better quality of life, are cleaner, more organized, but China has contributed more to civilization than Nippon. Many cultural aspects of Japan are Chinese in origin. The Japanese people didn't have a writing system before adopting China's Kanjis.

    Modern Japan: Germany
    Ancient Japan: Germania
Modern China: improving a lot, but it's still behind Japan in cleanliness and quality of life.
Ancient China: the Rome of the east.
