It was a good place for colonization, but all that free land didn't attract that many Serb colonists anyway. They didn't reach beyond Kumanovo.

That is not true. We completely lost Krajina, situation in Bosnia isn't good too, 100 years ago we basically had all of it or at least 75%. We were also relative majority in Bosnia until 1961 and today we are only 30% and our numbers are decreasing.

The fact that Montenegro is independent and not it union with Serbia shows that it is clearly not our puppet state, if it were it also definitely wouldn't recognize Kosovo as independent. Its true that majority of Montenegrins still feel close to Serbia but Montenegro as state clearly isn't.

Truth is that after ww1 Serbia could have taken all lands we lay claims to, which we technically did but under creating Yugoslavia instead of "Greater" Serbia.
And under Yugoslavia we struggled and managed to lose huge chunks of lands that could have been easily Serbian if our leaders were smarter.

The Serbs cared more about Slovenia and less about your fiefdom, the poorest of the republics (not counting Kossovo as it was part of Serbia) and this is why they left you go.
