Question to americans, and native english speakers, can you understand what he sings? I understand very little, he has some time of dialect or something
All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races, going nowhere, going nowhere

African-Americans already have their own secular identity; so, to be prudent, they should simply lessen intraracial clashes, strive to better themselves via trades or higher education, take advantage of African American-sponsored grants, etc. The song, along with many other things, is rooted in egotistical materialistic wants, primal human instincts, self loathing and hate. When you dwell on these vices; the very aim of one's intent regresses into depravity.
Nevertheless, self-loathing is the antithesis of prudence; a person should direct their influence with a rational, wise and a calm mind. Or else, acting purely out of primal instincts and emotion will bring nothing but continuous folly, misery and decadence.
“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.”
