Autism is an excuse some people use for being an asshole or having poor social skills. On forums people use it to insult others who post too much. Take it in context.

Yes, it's shocking and disturbing seeing people casually throw the term about, yet clearly know nothing about it. (Lack of eye contact, echolalia, lack of pointing by age 2, repetitions, intense interests in details, variety not being the spice of life, excellent memory skills, speech and language difficulties, problems with social interaction, etc, etc.)

Asperger's and Savant Autistic people usually have a much higher than average intelligence. The Rain Man is one example, and the autistic UK schoolboy who hacked into so many top secret files of the CIA, FBI, National Security, etc, is another example of many. Mozart and Einstein are other examples.

I probably know more about Autism than any other person on TA - and I have years of experience of meeting with specialists on this subject at the NAS, etc.

I have a lot of folders in my home on the subject and I have met with plenty of autistic children.

I've dedicated and spent a lot of my life into reading about Autism and meeting autistic people and meeting with trained specialists in Autism.

I don't suffer from the condition - but I know of someone very special and extremely close to me who does - and our lives have been a long battle in getting him the professional help he needs, etc. There's been days and nights when it's been extremely challenging to cope with his medical condition, but I feel like I've emerged stronger from it all.

It's not a subject I discuss on TA as I've seen many posters here who have shown to have a minimal understanding of the condition by resorting to using it as an insult - so I can't be bothered with them - but it's certainly a subject I talk about regularly off-line with understanding people who are professionally trained in Autism.

Whenever I see someone use the term 'Autism' as an insult on TA, I just prefer to avoid interacting with ignorant people. I don't wish to name the posters who I saw doing it. It's just shocking and disturbing that people could stoop that low, but I've not seen anyone ever use it as an insult outside of TA.

I've had social interactions or came in contact with many people, more than 3000 people. Only like 5 people in my entire life had ever said I'm a autistic person; one of them used to be my friend, and one was my co-worker. However I've met thousands of people in my life and none of them ever said I was autistic except for a extreme few. 5 out of 3000 people is only 0.16% who think I'm autistic, not even 1%.
