    Default Adopting orphans

    Serious question here.

If a wealthy family in America were to decide to give a home to a child who doesn't have one-- from a different country, or otherwise-- what are your thoughts on that?

Where would you find a kid that's been abandoned or neglected? From an orphanage, or from an agency, or private adoption?

When I was overseas I saw many street kids that looked pretty neglected, and I know that in certain places there are kids who live in sewers or abandoned.

Is it even possible to adopt one of them? How would one go about doing that?

There are lots of adoption agencies for foreign kids. Most adoptive parents go through those agencies.

    Adoption is immoral.

The cases of abuse are not rare in adoptive families, plus there will always be an issue between the adopted child and the adoptive parent.

Oh... yeah that was weird. But I think that's not too common. Dads can also abuse bio children.

When you adopt a kid there will be issues as they grow up, sure, but you don't think it's preferable to a wasted life on the street?

In some countries you are required to have a fixed residence and to have lived there for a period of time, you might also need to register with a goverment agency first and have them do checks on you, such is the case in Brazil, and as with everything here, it's very bureauractic.

I would go through a specialised agency instead of going directly to the orphanage, at least to ask questions on the process first.

If one has the means and have the best intentions to provide a better life to someone in need (especially children) it is nothing less than noble.

My mom always wanted to adopt a child, but my dad was opposed. My grandparents had a foster child from Greenland, my great-grandparents had a foster child from the Netherlands during the war and my great-great-grandparents had a foster child from a single mom.
    Spoiler!

I already foster infants part-time and it's a lot of fun. There is a big need for foster parents everywhere.
