As the total losses of France in WWII were relatively low, I can't exclude that if France really attacked Germany its losses would be higher. So, maybe this way turned out less bloody for France.

True but my understanding is they took such heavy losses during WW1 that they had a shortage of young men aged 18-30 to draft from during WW2.
