If for many generations Protestants marry only Protestants and Catholics marry only Catholics, then yes, eventually some differences will emerge (even if initially it was one group).

Do you think there is a divide between the two religions in ethnicity? Even in the USA?
Generally, yes; Catholics tend to be more southern Euro, and/or Latin.

In my city, there's a large Catholic contingency, even though it's the South. The Spanish and French settled in my area and had large families. The Protestants, of which we also have many of, came south through Appalachia.

I've got both, and you can add in Huguenot and German Catholic immigrants to the mix. Quite diverse, yet typical for my area.

In Hungary average Protestant Magyar will probably be bit more southern shifted than Catholic one, because Protestants live mostly in east and Transylvania and Catholics mostly in western Hungary (Transdanubia).
Just guessing. And talking about people who didn't mix extensively with other Catholics or Protestants ethnicities ofcourse.

Stears' Transdanubian side is Protestant and his Transylvanian is Catholic, but that is opposite of general rule.

    In America, yes.

Catholics are more likely to be Eastern or Southern European, or Hispanic, whereas Protestants are more likely to be Northwestern European or Black.

The two major NW Euro Catholic groups here are Germans and Irish.

I think with regards to what Profileid said upthread, IIRC, in Germany historically the religious divide is Catholics in the west and south and Protestants in the north and east. Genetically Germany is kinda heterogenous with a east-west cline so in a sense there is a difference between "Catholic DNA" and "Protestant DNA" within Germany, but it's merely coincidental and not by design.

Protestant DNA = South Slavic DNA

The famous Protestant reformer Martin Luther appears to have belonged to haplogroup I2a-Din-N (L147.2, aka CTS5966 or CTS10228) according to probable relatives whose haplotypes can be found on the Luther Surname DNA Project, including one genealogically traceable 1st cousin 13 times removed, as well as other relatives on ySearch (especially ySearch ID: YTE6E).

We catholic West Germans are closer to dutch protestants than to a bavarian catholic or a east German protestant.
