    Default Gencove: regional averages

Gencove accepts raw data from most companies, it's good to compare results:

    https://my.gencove.com

Please only post results of people with grandparents born in the same region.

    1. I will start with 4 results of Poles from Greater Poland (my family):

    Gencove Grandma Mom Dad Me
    Northeast Europe 68% 65% 48% 60%
    Northern British 7% 14% 12% 15%
    North & Central Euro 6% 5% 6%
    Scandinavia 5% 2% 26% 3%
    Northern Italy 11% 6% 9%
    East Med 8% 14% 7%
    Southwest Euro 3%

I will add more results from this region (and other Polish regions) later.

Blank map of Europe with regional borders. I highlighted Greater Poland:

    Combination of the two

The Irish result is significantly more Scandinavian-like than the English one, but the English person has some South Italian-like ancestry the Irish does not.

I wouldn't place too much stock in Gencove results. The higher Scandinavian and Southern European in the Irish result looks like a compensation for the lack of Northern & Central European, which should be higher. It's also data from different companies.

The Irish score so much Scandinavian in Gencove because they are using Iceland as part of their Scandinavian references. And we know that Icelanders have a lot of Celtic ancestry. Now we have ancient DNA from Iceland, it confirms that some of the early settlers were Insular Celts (Gaels etc.):
