The average Romanian doesn't think of Croatia much more than a neighbor who also joined the EU as well as maybe a vacation destination, because of the lack of historical contact/conflict as you said earlier. One way I think Romania and Croatia are similar is that both countries want to distance themselves from the East and be more "Western", in contrast to other countries in the region such as Serbia, which are friendly towards Russia. The difference is that Croatians so far managed to keep their image cleaner, while Romanians are stereotyped as gypsies in the west.

Interesting , I think Many Croats see Romania as mysterious and unexplored country They are quite curious about. Modern Romanian film is appreaciated here I watched quite a few.
Btt, I think our image in west isn't much better than of Romanians. We are often stereotyped as bloodthirsty nazis which average Croat finds quite annoying just like Romanians with Roma association

Oh yes. It makes lot of sense.
BTW I'd like to know your opinion about that nice little tune, which happens to be played by a Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (let's say 'Yugoslav') band, which borrowed a lot to Romanian music, and is offered to an enthusiastic Polish audience (in Poznan).
A great Balkanic/Slavic celebration:

I haven't heard of the nazi croat stereotype much to be honest. I don't think It's prevalent outside immediate neighbors that had negative experiences with the Ustase. Btw, fascism was significant in Romania as well. Also, if I may ask, what Romanian movies did you watch and enjoyed?

I expected more balanced poll, with Romania winning more votes, and some for France or in-between (like I voted)
Interesting

An overlooked parameter that would put Croatia closer to France is the fact that in the years 1950-90, Croatia (and all of Yugoslavia), albeit a one party Communist regime, was a relatively free one, well connected to the West. There were plenty of private businesses, people could travel or emigrate to Western Europe when they wanted, there were virtually no passport controls, no iron curtain, and the standard of living was decent compared to Romania and other Warsaw Pact countries.
Croatia, like Slovenia, was virtually Western Europe.

Neither.
They don't look neither Arabs nor Gypsies.
