Default Experiences traveling to Southeast Asia?

Has anyone traveled to Southeast Asia. If so, what countries would you recommend and which ones would you avoid? What were your experiences like, the highs and lows? Which were the friendliest countries and which were the least friendly?

Malayasia was pretty friendly and nice people. I was there for vacation just to see it. It was nice to see that all cultures intermingle with each other. It's quite true that the Chinese are the economic leaders of the country. I could have been treated I am of Arabian descent. This is only Southeast Asian nation that I have been into.

This might be a bit bias but I personally think laotians and myanmar people are the friendliest because they're the least used to seeing tourists and foreigners. The most unfriendly would be those who have the most experience with tourists and thus many bad experiences or those that are overly stressed out and somewhat arrogant (e.g. Singapore). Or those that are overly nationalistic.

Personally, I think the most unfriendly, most dangerous and rudest are those Ironman calls his "true southeast asian brothas" AKA the "anti China brigade/South China Sea claimants". In these countries, scamming and ripping off foreigners and ganging up on them is the way to go.

    Some examples:
Vietnam (I think this is by far the worst country ever, people/officials are corrupt and make no effort to hide it. The diaspora are some of the scummiest people I've seen, extremely racist towards minorities, committing lots of crime and joining gangs while being laughed at by everybody else. The sad part is they know and feel ashamed to be vietnamese, that's why they hide behind the 'asian' label while boasting about their pho and viet superiority vis-a-vis cambodians, laotians, thai, chinese, koreans, etc., etc.

Viets always try to act "like a sombooooodee". See below

Harmless boy beaten by vietnamese thug police (they were jealous of his nordic features and how all the local girls went crazy over him. Uncle Duongs were reminded of their big bellies and skinny, no muscle arms/legs)

Nasty viet bus driver, I know for a fact that if the little brown viet-phi touched the french woman, big irish guy would back his words and pop his head off. Difference between southeast asians and whites is this. Southeast asians act tough online. Whites (and most non-asians) actually can back up what they say with regards to asians anyway

They're like this with other asians too. Viet customs tried to extort money from chinese tourists resulting in a big brawl:

And here, the foreigner actually fights back. Viet coward deserved every second of it. Notice how it took another foreigner to pull his fellow man off. Notice how the viet man puffed his chest, took off his shirt and acted like he won? "Like a sombodeee" but forgot that the "sombodee" that saved his ass was white (Antony pv, please take notes. You guys aren't a fighting race, sorry)

Oh, and in Ironman's home and real country, violence, kidnapping and murder of tourists are the way to go. Really uncivilized country yet has no qualms calling the chinese uncivilized. It's true, many aspects of chinese culture still need refining and all chinese will admit there's a long way to go. However we won't gang up on other developing countries for the sole purpose of mocking/degrading them while being complete shit, like the vieto-phi malays

    Some comments
considering what the USA gives to flips they can offer nothing in return. they know their police wont catch them so its open season. dont do this, dont do that, forget it, the flips are not worth it. very ungrateful flips & the apologists...very sad indeed.
never trust a filipino there in the Philippines.
it's dangerous everywhere, but the Philippines is a drug ridden, AIDS ridden country. extremely envious and jealous and bunch of thieves.
In the Philippines, the foreigner is ALWAYS wrong in any dispute.
    Filipino response.
It's true. Typically the foreigner did something to agitate a local.
    ^Weak

So please viet-phi-malays, don't hate on chinese. It's time for introspection. We are not the reason why you are called jungle, less intelligent, brown or every negative thing under the sun. We didn't cause your inferiority complexes. Own your own problems, you're the only one that can fix them like how thais fixed their tourism industry (sort of).

So in conclusion, the proud, racist east asians may not be so bad. The best parts of southeast asia to travel are those that are just kick starting their economy like Laos, Myanmar and the rich and "experienced" nusantarans (Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia) are the worst. That's my impression.

It looks good and I can agree. It looks much better than the overrated dump of "noo yawk" for sure. If you go on the subways, you can see what an overrated, atrocious dump New York is (Grand Forks and Bilings despite being far smaller and lesser known cities are a million times better than NY). The sad part is it's that way because of certain groups (minorities, in fact).

Minneapolis is truly a beautiful city (very subjective I know ) and quite comparable with Makati (tall, clean and green).

BTW, the Philippines does have some massive malls and one of the most famous companies, SM Holdings built SM Tianjin in China (among the largest malls in the world)
