Erdogan was born in 1954. Turkey was ruled by single party CHP (Republican People's party) until 1950, when multi-party system was implemented. So when Erdogan was born, Turkey had multi-party system and Democrat party was government.

Erdogan says that he remembers that he went to school during CHP's single-party era. He claims that there were 75 pupils in a classroom. He also says that there were classrooms with 100 pupils elsewhere in Turkey
