The same happens in Sardinia, 90% of Italian journalists are unable to correctly pronounce Sardinian surnames and place names, they always put the accent in the wrong place. (like Nuòro instead of Nùoro).

Most of them were wrong

(Sardinian doesn't follow the same rules of Italian about the accent's positions)

Instead about Noragugume mentioned by Gica, the accent's position is simple if you know Latin. Noragugume comes from Latin "Norac Cuccumae" (nuraghe della pentola), because of a nuraghe that had the shape of a pot or because the nuraghe was covered by orange lichens and looked like a copper pot. (this is a common thing in Sardinia, many nuraghes are covered by orange or grey lichens; like the nuraghe that gives the name to the village of Torralba, during the Roman age it was named Turris Alba = white tower, and then in Sardinian "Turr'alva" and in Italian "Torralba").
