This has nothing to do with "isolation". What has isolation have to do with militarisitaion or homice\violent crime rates? Not even 50 years ago Portugal mobilized one million troops into Africa to a conflict that lasted 10 years against nearly +20 nations and we were more isolated than ever before politically. Portugal always had low crime rates since there's reports.

My point is that isolation plays an important part in the lack of militarization obviously. Greece is actually very close to Portugal in homicide rate and lower than most European countries.

The GPI doesn' correlate with crimes that are committed in the country. Greece isn't as peaceful as Portugal due to it's..uh, unkindly neighbors and all that. But the country could be as safe if not more safer than Portugal.
