This film shows stunning views of New York's Waterfront as seen from a boat on the Hudson River. During this trip we pass Battery Park, Clinton Castle (with its roof still intact), Battery Park, the Staten Island Ferry, Various 'slips', the IWW building and the New York State Canal Building. Clinton Castle was the home of the New York Aquarium until 1941. In the years to follow, the city council made no less than six attempts to get this castle demolished. Battery park where the Dutch made their first settlement "Nieuw Amsterdam" under the lead of Peter Stuijvesant. The city was renamed "New York" under later British rule. The original film has been motion-stabilized, speed-corrected, A.I enhanced and A.I. colourized by means of modern video software. Source B&W footage: Prelinger Archive (USA). Upscaled with neural networks trip down Market Street, San Francisco, 1906. This film was shot on April 14, 1906, just four days before the San Francisco earthquake and fire which killed an estimated 3 000 people and destroyed over 80% of the city of San Francisco. It was produced by: Harry, Herbert, Earle and Joe. Harry J. This is actually a staged shoot, so it's not actual traffic from that time: – The film records a total of thirty cable cars, four horsecars, and four streetcars. At first there also appear to be many automobiles; however, a careful tracking shows that almost all of the autos circle the camera many times—one of them ten times. This traffic was apparently staged by the producer to give Market Street the appearance of a prosperous modern boulevard with many automobiles. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Trip_...

We don't know their names, nor the photographer who immortalized them, but these men lunching 800 feet up show the daredevil spirit behind Manhattan's vertical expansion.

This film shows spectacular views of old New York, nearly a century ago. Particularly interesting are the great shots at the beginning of the old Penn station which sadly was demolished in 1963. Before this activity began, the New York Times wrote: "Until the first blow fell, no one was convinced that Penn Station really would be demolished, or that New York would permit this monumental act of vandalism against one of the largest and finest landmarks of its age of Roman elegance" Also a market on the East side comes into view with fruit stalls and clothing stalls. This is followed by shots of 5th Avenue where the rich & famous live. Thereafter a visit is payed to Metropolitan Museum of Art (Moma) where among other a collection of harnesses can be admired. The trip goes on to the American Museum for Natural History where a reconstruction of a dinosaur skeleton is taking place. Some viewers may recall the famous scene from the movie "On the Town" when a huge dinosaur skeleton is wrecked by one of the three sailors who are visiting New York. Various scenes with early traffic showing double decker busses and luxurious motorcars also appear in the film. The film ends with shots of Riverside Drive, a favourite promenade with nice views over the Hudson River.

Take a peek back at New York in 1930s letting you see the Big Apple, Times Square, Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge–they’re all on display, Manhattan was full of all those buildings, but New York city was more than that. Five borough constituted the city : Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. Each borough was different, with different cultures. during the 1930’s, the most known buildings appeared : the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building. 1:00 - the Frick Museum on 5th ave and 71st. 1:34 - Sherman statue at Grand Army Plaza, 5th ave and 59th st. 1:59 - Heading south on Broadway, facing east, approaching Times Square 2:32 - Driving south on Park Ave at about 39th street but looking north at Grand Central station, years before the Pan Am building was built. (Thx Ross Rothschild)

New Jersey has a rich and fascinating history, clip contain footage from around the state, while focusing on cityscapes.take note of the fashion (so many hats), architecture (many of the buildings still exist today), and transportation. busses, streetcars, trolleys, automobiles, and a few horse-drawn carriages. Streets are wide and people seem to cross without fear, the 1920s were a time of prosperity for many New Jerseyans. Cities were thriving at the time and we had several – Newark, Camden, and Jersey City, for example. The Holland Tunnel and Benjamin Franklin bridge were both completed during this decade, making transportation to New York and Philadelphia.
