I remember having had French coworkers. I spoke Dutch with my Flemish coworkers and English to them. They spoke French to each other and English to me. In mixed conversation groups the lingua franca was English.
If my French were better, I'd have no qualms speaking it, though.
As for the Belgian team. One player is better at languages than the other. Romelu Lukaku speaks 5 to 6 languages even. You bet he speaks French with Hazard and Dutch with De Bruyne.

We speak about male professional football players group only. Choose among them.
Maybe there can't be applied fixed measures for this selection but French trainers and politicians could use common sense to think how they want to represent own nation to others, with what kind of players.
But in the end not my business anyway.
