In what order do you like Western Romance languages in terms of sound, beauty, etc.?

Going by what I've heard, here's mine:

1. French
2. Italian
3. Portuguese
4. Spanish

Not sure why but never really liked the sound of Spanish. Italian and Portuguese I would say are near tied. If Ecclesiastical Latin were included I might put it as number 1.

Phonetically it would be Italian for sure, but writing I guess French would be the 1st.
Spanish overall sounds awful to me, specially from spain.

Tough one, along with English, Portuguese is my native tongue, Castilian, Asturian and Galician are my ancestral languages, and French I actively sought out to learn.

If I remember correctly Italian is not a Western Romance language

(From Wikipedia) Some classifications include Italo-Dalmatian; the resulting clade is generally called Italo-Western Romance. Other classifications place Italo-Dalmatian with Eastern Romance.

Under many aspects Italian is more similar to Romanian than to Western Romance languages.


BTW returning to the score, I would add to the rank also Sardinian that in the Romance family is the closest to vulgar Latin (even if Sardinian is neither Western nor Eastern, but it's alone in its own Insular Romance group; it's however very close to Western group).

Well i will not put them in order, I'll just say that the one that i like the least is french. I actually don't like Spanish also that much but i respect his history and i do like Cervantes and thanks to this I'll probably put it on a higher scale than french.

À mon avis , qu'il vaudrait parlez français. Le français est la langue supérieur-- c'est si très bon !
