It was thought that they would start to miss mommy and daddy and hot meals with dreary eyes, whereas psychologically best suited type does not think or wallow in the past, and just lives in the moment.
Being a Mamas boy and reflecting on the past are two majorly different things. Wanting to revert back to the way things were is nostalgic. Comparing concepts from 100-200 years ago to now just doesn't work. They didn't even know how the brain worked, what causes and how to treat mental disorders back then. That is like comparing full genome tests to blood type comparison during the early days of forensics. What you are referring to is people who are coddled growing up. Wanting to return to the days before SJW's and Woke culture is nostalgic, the term doesn't mean what it used to mean.

Most of us have an inner dialogue and part of that is processing the past and what was good and bad. I am nostalgic about bolt action rifles but that doesn't mean I would want one to protect myself or fight with, but that information does help me in understanding modern rifles. Psychology even today is pretty ass backward. Anything commissioned by a military in terms of studies is usually influenced by author or their overseers who over or under analyze a situation. Every military including the best ones tend to make stupid ass decisions and observations a lot of the time.
Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.

Even if this were hard--that is how it is ! Assuredly, however, by far the harder fate is that which strikes the man who thinks he can overcome Nature, but in the last analysis only mocks her. Distress, misfortune, and diseases are her answer.

Cool. I don't think you need emotional attachment to history or past to analyze past. Likely best analysis is reached by removing emotion from equations. Living in the moment seems to be good survival strategy, especially when shit hits the fan, so optimally I'd expect very intelligent and lets say less tube-minded person to adapt, and sort of, indeed, learn, to live in the moment, even if that is not his/hers natural inclination. To live in the moment as natural inclination is indeed animalistic, but likely not always sign of low class and intelligent, fex many psychopathic big business guys don't have much emotional attachment to past, even Henry Kissinger - I doubt he is very nostalgic person. Even his quote sounds very callous, cold and unemotional.

Nostalgia is fine, as long as it does not control you, or your decision making process.

Very true, I listen to the same music I have listened to as a kid but i am not trying to relive the past. Being forward driven is the only way to be, but everything shapes us whether we recognize it or not. Complete lack of emotion is probably a worse mental disorder than living in the past imo. Balance is the key to a healthy mind.

The nostalgia epidemic is a disease of the sick times we live in. The facts we are surrounded by entertainment 24/7 and have everything we want just a click away, took our excitement. Checking the phone is our idle mode even in real life conversations. Being bored is a important feeling cause it thrives to creativity, but its very easy to kill boredom with all the devices and forms of entertainment available. So people try to remember a time where they could be exited easily.

I think its very cringeworthy to feel nostalgia, rage or even aadness over banal things like the star wars franchise. Feeling nostalgia over past political philosophies or societies on the other hand is something I am proud of.
