Classify/place robust Dalmatian Croat

What was his ethnicity ? I'm quite curious, obviously not Italian. Could he be originated from real Latinised Dalmatians ?

He was Latin speaking Dalmatian, probably descendant of romanized Illyrians.

Many Romance Dalmatians on the coast were slavized and became Croatians.
Native Croatians from Dalmatian coast (Fetivi) are partly descendants of Latin speaking Dalmatians.
In the last 100 years Vlaji from Dalmatian Hintherland and Škutori from western Herzegovina settled to Dalmatian coast and today they majority on the coast.

Yes, but this man lived in 19th century, on a island where majority was Croatian, He probably had slavic admixture, I can't imagine his ancesotors didn't mix with Croats for 1000 + years.

Fascinating how long Dalmatian language survived (despite that island isn't geographicaly in Dalmatia but in North Adriatic), I hope it will be reviewed!

That's true ofcourse.

But Vlaji have Illyrian admix as well, just not from refined coastal Dalmatian speakers, more from inland people. Btw, škutori is not a nice name

Name Škutori came from Skadar (Shkoder). Because some Catholic western Herzegovinian came to western Herzegovina from Skadar in 17th century.

Vast majority of Vlaji carry Slavic y dna, and statistic for Dalmatian Croatians is mostly based on them.
There is a paleo-Balkanic dna among Vlaji, but mostly autosomally. Not so much in y dna.
