Default Are Swiss Germans essentially Germanized Celts?

I wonder about Swiss Germans. Do their origins lie in actually Germanic tribes or was the local pre-German population merely germanized? This seems to be the case to me. Same question could even be said about Austrians, I suppose.

Swiss are just gonna be super close to south Germans to begin with....and the early medieval Bavarian ended up being genetically Frisian-like...I.E., more northern than modern locals. There is a line of thinking that not only was there maybe some bounce back of local gallo-Roman stock, but also a lot of movement from Francia. This may have reinvigorated the cline.

With that being said, yeah, I suspect modern Swiss as well as their closest relatives are more strongly derived from Gallo-Romans, with some but much less from the elite Germanics.

Yes, Celts didn't just disappear from the face of the Earth. Celtic people intermixed with Germanic arrivals, with the implicit assumption being that they would inevitably be Germanized in the language. With that being said, the only major difference genetically between the Celts and encroaching Germanics is that the Celts had a couple dozen more percentage points of Anatolian farmer admixture. However that would again be increased during Roman times as Roman farmers were given land in Switzerland (which is why a good portion of Switzerland today speaks Romance languages). Naturally these new Roman arrivals would eventually over the following two thousands years intermix (although to a lesser extent) with the Swiss Germans as well.

Swiss Germans are a special case.
In NW Europe, during the Middle-Ages, the Franks (in northern France and present day Belgium) were continuously loosing ground to French culture.
Just the opposite happened in Switzerland. Still in the 18th century French speaking districts were assimilated to the conquering Swiss-German culture, and the language boundary never ceased to move West, year after year.

German Switzerland (Swiss Swabians) is probably the toughest corner of Germania.
