Jashari and more than 50 members of his extended family were killed in March 1998 by Serbian forces, which marked the beginning of the war in Kosovo that left over 13 thousand people dead, while 1,600 are still considered as missing. Film director Kryeziu told TV Klan Kosova that he received some of the proposals of who would play the founder of the KLA, Adem Jashari. Among those who called him expressing interest to play leading role was Serbian actor, Rade Serbedzija. According to Kryeziu, Serbedzija contacted him through Kosovo actor who was famous in former Yugoslavia, Enver Petrovci. “The reasons he gave me was strange stating that ‘If I as a Serb can play Adem Jashari’s role, then the whole world would accept Adem Jashari,’” says Kryeziu, who however said that he turned down the offer. Kryeziu said that an audition on Adem Jashari’s role is expected in coming months. Rade Serbedzija is a Croatian born actor of Serbian nationality.
