Great thread. I proudly accept Jesus as my Lord, and I will not deny him before anybody - however I don't belong to, or identify as a member of any organised religion. I see the church as an organisation of men and women rather than a direct way to bring oneself closer to God, and I believe that the latter is something one can only do privately. I'm only quite young and I have a long way to go on my journey of understanding, though; so I would appreciate any input or experiences anyone may have had that they may wish to share in this regard.

You're absolutely on the right path! I'd be delighted to share my experiences with you, and the things I have learned through them. I also don't belong to any particular church. It doesn't matter! In fact, I daresay the majority of churches would only confuse people and not really lead them into a personal relationship with Jesus -- which is all that matters in the end.
