The consumer price index climbed 15.4 percent in June from the same month in 2017 on an annual basis, up from 12.2 percent in May, which was higher than estimates, official data has shown.

The highest year-on-year price increase was in transportation costs, which were up 24.3 percent, data from the Turkish Statistics Institute (TÜİK) showed on July 3.

Furnishing and household equipment rose 18.91 percent, while food and non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 18.9 percent.

Consumer prices in June recorded a change of 2.61 percent on a monthly basis and a rise from 1.62 percent in May.

The dollar-lira parity rose sharply after the data was released, rising from 4.6225 to 4.69 according to Reuters data.

According to a separate TÜİK announcement, producer prices (PPI) were up 23.7 percent on yearly basis. .
