Cant answer directly but there is a theory that there are multi universes and we live in just one of them.
Or there is another theory that aliens/beings/spirits/etc shift in and out of various "dimensions".

Sounds like you're sneaking in some purpose and meaning behind existence. The universe doesn't have to make sense from our point of view.

How would you explain the redundancy of the universe then? Whatever the purpose of that simulation would be, there is no reason to create vast areas of void and billions of repetitions of essentially the same things like various types of stars, planets, etc. A significantly scaled down version of the universe would do just as well for every possible problem, I think.
