Most studies so far claim Z280 is the most dominant type in Albanians. Particularly the clade L1280.
However, in our project we have 2 unspecified M417 from Southern Albania, 2-Z280 basal Y33 from Mati in Northern Albania, one Z280-z92 from Laberia. one Z280-L1280 on FTDNA from Montenegro. One Z280-CTS1121 from Tirana with origin from Gjakova. 1 M458 suspected to be either L1029 or YP515. This M458 sample is from Central Albania.
2 L1029 from known subclades like YP263 and/or YP417 from Southern Albania. Finally 3 basal L1029(including my sample) that are part of an Albanian founder effect with all having origin from Diber(on either side of the border), this officially named Dibra cluster.
Having my novels tested, currently based on positive SNPs, my and my first match have a TMRCA for our founder effect of 1350ypb. The second match is suspected to be 200 years earlier, though he may still share the same TMRCA given 2 of his unstable STRs. Which would suggest our founder clade has been around the Diber region for a longtime.
All in all based on our project results M458 seems most dominant by a hair. I know one other Albanian(not in our project) who is predicted R-YP4441 under Z280.
Regarding M458 these matches don’t share my surname and split off early. I imagine there’s numerous Albanians with this line around that area. My father is one of 3 brothers. Their father one of 3 as well with my great grandfather being one of 12 brothers. All had surviving sons that branches out. Some went to Arbanas in Bulgaria. Macedonian and Turkey.
